Addressing the crime of domestic violence
London.gov.uk

The Mayor wants London to be a truly 21st century world city – that means a city where all feel safe and secure, where children have happy childhoods unscarred by violence and where agencies provide safe and effective responses to domestic violence when it does occur. In 2001 he launched the first pan-London Domestic Violence Strategy, which set out a vision for effectively addressing the issue of domestic violence and detailed the specific steps to be taken to achieve this. Its objective was to create consistent quality responses across London and for agencies to work together to address domestic violence more effectively.

Since then there have been many improvements to the responses of a range of agencies involved, and many developments at a local, regional and national level. In November 2005 the second London Domestic Violence Strategy, building on the work of the original strategy, was published. Follow the links below for more information and to download the strategies and other documents.

The second London Domestic Violence Strategy

'The proposals in this document aim to make London a safe city in every aspect – including in our homes', writes the Mayor in his foreword to the second London Domestic Violence Strategy, published in November 2005. The strategy builds on the progress of recent years in tackling domestic violence in London. It sets out the next stages of addressing the issue and details specific steps that will take us further.
